Collaboration with Nuditea
Dawn Patrol Tea!
Hello everyone (and especially tea lovers)!
For me, music can be very powerful. It can tell a story, be a vehicle for protest, be an emotional release, help you get lost in a trance, and evoke memories of love, happiness or sadness.
I have often wondered, how could we enhance these emotions when listening to music. Can we translate sound into taste and smell and activate our other senses?
I do love a good cup of tea and always feel really happy and relaxed when having a cuppa, so I approached the independent UK tea company, Nuditea, to see if they would like to collaborate on a project, and to my delight, they loved the idea.
The process began with top tea creator, Josh Holmes, listening to the four tracks from Shinrin-yoku whilst reading my notes describing the story behind each composition.
The track that sparked his imagination for a recipe was Dawn Patrol. Josh later sent me five boxes of different blends from his stock for me to try out and give some feedback (that was a fun experiment)!
The final concoction includes rooibos, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, honeybush, black peppercorns, and is caffeine free ~
The flavour explores rich, grounding notes balanced with uplifting sweetness and spiced warmth, reflecting the track’s inspiration, celebrating the boundless optimism of a new day. Crafted to steep and honour the organic connection between artist, nature and listener.
We’re having a tasting session of the tea at the London Coffee Festival at the Truman Brewery on the 17th of May, 14:00-15:00. Get your tickets here.
If you can’t make it down, I will also be selling the tea from my Bandcamp. Please note that I cannot sell outside the UK and the price includes delivery. Also this will be available from the 29th of May.
If you’d like a bundle of the tea plus the limited edition vinyl, please visit the Nuditea online shop here.
I’m also having a listening party at the Shai Space (Shai means tea in Arabic…there’s a theme here) on the 27th of May. I’ll be chatting about my musical influences with Siofra McComb, as well as discussing the creation of the music from Shinrin-yoku. The ticket price includes your copy of the vinyl which I’d be very happy to sign for you! Book your tickets here.
I also have some fun non-tea-related news brewing, which is connected to a very significant centenary later this month, but you’ll have to wait!
Peace and love,
Yazz x
